Two millennia ago, the Silk Road connected the East and West, serving as a vital corridor for economic, trade, and cultural exchange. As a key node along this legendary route, Xinjiang played a long-standing and pivotal role in the Silk Road network.

Today, the exhibition "Echoes of the Silk Road" brings a curated selection of cultural relics from museums across Xinjiang to Minhang, Shanghai.
Featuring 110 precious artifacts, the exhibition presents a multidimensional view of ancient Xinjiang's unique position and splendid civilization along the Silk Road, spanning military administration, economic exchange, social life, and cultural beliefs.

Chen Long, Chief Recommender of Enjoy Minhang, shared after visiting the exhibition: "The expressions of the figures are incredibly vivid, especially their eyes, which leave a deep impression. I've been looking forward to this exhibition for a long time. Due to my filming schedule, I hadn't been able to visit earlier, so I'm really glad to finally experience it in person."

The exhibition systematically traces the historical development and cultural achievements of the Xinjiang section of the Silk Road, guiding visitors to revisit its glorious past.Among the highlights is an original first-class cultural relic a painted silk depiction of Fuxi and Nüwa—which vividly reflects the scene of Central Plains mythology and the aesthetics of the Western Regions.

Xu Di, Head of the Education and Publicity Department of Minhang Museum, explained that the artwork was unearthed from a joint burial tomb in the Astana region of Xinjiang and was originally fixed to the ceiling of the tomb chamber. In the painting, Nüwa appears on the left holding a compass, while Fuxi stands on the right holding a square—symbols representing the act of drawing circles and squares. Together, they embody ancient philosophical concepts such as "round Heaven and square Earth" and the idea that order and standards underpin the universe. Measuring nearly two meters in length, the artwork delivers a powerful visual and emotional impact when viewed up close.

The exhibition’s opening week coincides with the "Minhang–Zepu Cultural Exchange Week." In addition to the exhibition, visitors can explore a themed market that brings ancient scenes of East–West cultural exchange to life.

According to Xu Di,the market features more than 300 items of intangible cultural heritage and specialty products from Xinjiang, including traditional garments, Adras silk, and local agricultural goods, alongside cultural elements from Shanghai.Historically, Xinjiang has served as a crucial window and crossroads for exchanges between Eastern and Western civilizations. Through the integration of exhibitions and market activities, the museum aims to present the spirit of cultural exchange embodied in Echoes of the Silk Road in a more engaging and accessible way.

Currently, the market has been updated to a Spring Flower Market. The exhibition "Echoes of the Silk Road" will remain open to the public free of charge untilMay 19. At Minhang Museum, visitors can still explore the legacy of the Silk Road through precious artifacts and historical narratives, and listen to the echoes of millennia-old civilizations.
