English Version
United Nations Headquarters, New York– Shortly after the March 2025 closing of the 69th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69), an in-depth interview titled “From Resilience to Reconstruction: The Contemporary Challenge of Women’s Mental Health” took place simultaneously at a UN Headquarters conference room and online.
International host and singer Wang Guoquan - Prince John spoke via video link with UN AmbassadorDr. Monica Sanchez, founder of the UN-accredited NGO Miss Caricom International Foundation (MCIF).
I. The Moving Moment with Queen Mother Delois Blakely
Wang Guoquan - Prince John opened by recalling March 25, 2025—the post-CSW69 Reflection Forum and Awards Ceremony sponsored by the Permanent Mission of Senegal. UN AmbassadorDr. Monica Sanchezpresented the Lifetime Achievement Award to African spiritual leader and “New Harlem Queen Mother” Dr. Delois Blakely, saying: “We stand on your shoulders; we are your children… to present you with flowers today is an honor and a privilege.” Several hundred delegates rose in a prolonged standing ovation. The scene was later widely circulated on official UN channels and international media.
Born in Linden, Guyana,Dr. Sanchezsurvived racial riots, displacement, and the early loss of both parents. In 2001, after her daughter was diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, she adopted and raised her three grandchildren alone, formalizing the adoption in 2008.
“Those silent traumas enabled me to hear the deepest, unspoken cries of hundreds of millions of women worldwide,” she said. Her bookChild of a Childremains an Amazon bestseller, praised as “dissecting pain with the precision of a scalpel while binding wounds with the tenderness of a bandage.”
II. The Congratulatory Letter from One Month Ago
Wang Guoquan - Prince John noted that on October 16, 2025—approximately one month before this interview—while in Brussels on cultural diplomacy duties and unable to attend the opening of the UN Human Rights Summit in New York, he wrote a handwritten letter that night. It read in part:
“Though I am at EU Headquarters in Brussels and cannot attend the grand event at UN Headquarters in New York on the 16th, my heart is with you… I firmly believe that by upholding the summit’s mission—empowering the world, eliminating hunger, promoting human rights, fostering sustainable development, and advocating global peace and justice—we can build a community with a shared future for mankind.”
Dr. Sanchezproduced an elegantly printed copy from her desk: “The organizing committee agreed this letter perfectly expressed the responsibility and sentiment of intellectuals in the multilateral era. As a core member of the preparatory committee, I personally published the full text on my official Facebook page and recommended it to delegations from many countries.”
Wang Guoquan - Prince John replied: “Learning that Your Excellency personally shared it fills me with gratitude. In that moment, a single letter transcended personal greeting and became a bridge for cross-cultural dialogue.”
III. From Guyana to the Global Stage: Missions and Mutual Recognition
Dr. Sanchezoutlined MCIF’s ongoing programs: breakfast initiatives for migrant families, Christmas projects for children, emotional wellness workshops, and sustained advocacy that channels grassroots women’s voices into UN human rights mechanisms. “We must make policy hear the grassroots,” she emphasized.
She highlighted Wang Guoquan - Prince John’s historic appearance at a CSW69 parallel fashion show: as official international host, he walked the runway as a performer—the first Chinese man ever to do so at a UN Commission on the Status of Women event. “It was not just fashion but the breaking of a cultural stereotype,” she said.
Wang Guoquan - Prince John recalled receiving the MCIF Platinum Volunteer Award, personally presented byDr. Sanchez, along with a handwritten congratulatory letter: “Your unwavering dedication and passion for community service are inspiring.” This cross-border mutual recognition evolved in the dialogue into a deeper strategic consensus. He inquired how her multidimensional career—spanning law enforcement, criminal justice, cosmetology, and prison corrections—shaped her human rights philosophy.Dr. Sanchezresponded: “My years as a state officer at Sing Sing Prison showed me how institutions suppress humanity; conversations in beauty salons revealed the real fears of ordinary women. True empowerment is not condescending charity but rebuilding dignity for every silenced soul to stand tall.”
IV. Thirty Years After Beijing: Roots Are Rotting
On the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration,Dr. Sanchezwarned: “We celebrate blooming flowers while often ignoring that the roots are rotting.” Citing MCIF’s latest Caribbean findings, she reported that over 60% of women experience depressive symptoms due to economic and family pressures, yet fewer than 15% seek help. “Beijing declared that women’s rights are human rights. Thirty years on, we must add: women’s mental health is the health of all humanity.”
Wang Guoquan - Prince John shared observations fromboth hosting and attending as a guestmultiple CSW69 parallel forums: from Nigerian princesses to Congolese education ministers, Korean-American scholars to African grassroots organizers, all pointed to the same invisible violence—the invisibilization of emotional labor. This resonated strongly withDr. Sanchez’s push to incorporate “emotional justice” into the UN’s follow-up framework for the 2030 Agenda.
V. Resilience Beyond Graceful Endurance
Reflecting on her own repeated battles with cancer and strokes,Dr. Sanchezsaid: “Western narratives often romanticize resilience as graceful endurance. For us, resilience is anger, it is shouting, it is the political act of refusing silence. Every time I rise again, I hold a place for women who cannot yet stand.”
Wang Guoquan - Prince John responded with deep resonance, recounting how his mentor, China’s national treasure recitation master Mr. Qiao Zhen—who was just awarded the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles Lifetime Achievement Award (Film) at the 38th China Golden Rooster Awards on November 15, 2025—has battled cancer relentlessly, surviving it eight times whilecontinuing to fight on the front lines of recitation and language arts, never leaving the stage. It was Mr. Qiao Zhen himself who most frequently quotedThe Old Man and the Sea: “A man can be destroyed but not defeated.”
Wang Guoquan - Prince John then added a biblical verse he holds dear, saying gently: “The Scripture says, ‘Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.’” (Deuteronomy 31:6)
He continued: “Teacher Qiao Zhen has lived out ‘not defeated’ with his life, and this verse reminds us that true strength comes from the presence that never abandons us.”Dr. Sancheznodded: “My struggle is not personal heroism but testimony to collective memory.”
VI. A Shared Future Commitment
As the interview drew to a close, UN AmbassadorDr. Monica Sanchezlooked directly into the camera with evident admiration:
“Mr. Wang Guoquan - Prince John, you are not only the official international host of UN forums but also the globally recognized public welfare ambassador who has been officially conferred the honorary title of ‘International Host and Prince of Love Songs’ by joint commendations and certificates from the New York State Senate and the New York City Council. Such a dual identity is exceptionally rare and invaluable on the international stage.
Your February 16, 2025, charity concert ‘Full Moon, Beautiful Flowers’ at New York City Hall was a complete sell-out, with performances in Mandarin, English, and Shanghainese earning high praise from World Journal, Sing Tao Daily, China Press, and CNN en Espa?ol. MCIF would be deeply honored to co-produce with you a global charity concert dedicated to women’s mental health—using music as a universal language of healing and giving voice to the silenced.”
Wang Guoquan - Prince John smiled warmly and replied:
“Your Excellency flatters me. I would be truly honored to join forces with MCIF and, in the future, to present a concert filled with hope for women’s mental health—at the United Nations Headquarters, Lincoln Center, or Carnegie Hall.”
The dialogue not only carried forward but deepened the core concerns of CSW69, planting critical seeds for CSW70 in 2026: the full mainstreaming of women’s mental health into the UN human rights and 2030 Sustainable Development agendas.
