小說類
本屆長名單中，五位作家曾在《紐約客》發表過短篇小說：蘇珊·崔（Susan Choi）（她的作品同樣入圍了布克獎長名單）、喬納斯·哈森·克米里（Jonas Hassen Khemiri）、凱倫·拉塞爾（Karen Russell）、布萊恩·華盛頓（Bryan Washington）與喬伊·威廉姆斯（Joy Williams）。凱文·莫菲特（Kevin Moffett）的《獨子》（Only Son）與伊桑·盧瑟福（Ethan Rutherford）的《北方的太陽：或埃斯特捕鯨船航行記》（North Sun: Or, the Voyage of the Whaleship Esther）兩部作品均為作者的小說首作。名單中八位作家曾獲美國國家圖書獎提名。

非虛構類
三月刊《紐約客》曾節選李翊云的回憶錄《自然萬物只是生長》（Things in Nature Merely Grow），作品記述其子詹姆斯與文森特相繼自盡的悲痛經歷。"任何言辭都難以承受這般沉重：文字終究蒼白無力"，她在書寫詹姆斯之死時，重新審視那些慣常的悼念用語。"但即便陳詞濫調也承載著不可辯駁的真相。為詹姆斯寫下的每個字都注定殘缺。終有一天，我的理解會與他的本質徹底割裂"。奧馬爾·埃爾·阿卡德（Omar El Akkad）的著作《終有一日，世人皆言從未贊同此事》（One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This）抨擊西方世界對以色列加沙戰爭的默許縱容，同樣直面了死亡面前語言的局限性。這兩部作品皆入選本屆長名單，該類別還收錄了來自越南、俄羅斯與伊朗的回憶錄及紀實文學。十位作家均首獲美國國家圖書獎提名。
