Qixingtai, also known as Sijiaocheng (the Four-Cornered City), is located at the border of four cities: Jinan, Zhangqiu, Laiwu, and Tai'an, covering a total area of 20 square kilometers.
This ancient platform, nestled among the mountains, always reveals a unique demeanor amidst mist and clouds.
When the morning mist, like a plain silk, spreads over the dark green mountain ridges, the outline of Sijiaocheng looms faintly amidst the clouds. The remaining blue bricks of the city wall, damp with morning dew, seem to murmur tales of a thousand years gone by; when the mist curls around the crenels, it adds a touch of ethereality to this sense of historical profundity.
A mountain breeze blows by, and the mist and clouds suddenly surge and tumble. Masses of cloud surge down along Sijiaocheng's platform foundation, crash against the pine branches on the cliff edge, and turn into fine wispy mist that curls slowly upward around the stone steps—like traces left by immortals treading on clouds. Occasionally, sunlight pierces through the clouds, and golden rays slice diagonally through the sea of mist, illuminating the inscriptions on the stele at the top of the platform. The faded characters become even clearer amid the play of light and shadow, creating a delightful contrast with the mist and clouds enshrouding the mountains.
When the mist and clouds subside a little, the grandeur of Sijiaocheng is fully revealed. Cloud masses gather and disperse among the valleys—sometimes they drape over the platform like a light veil, immersing the ancient structure in a hazy poetic atmosphere; at other times, they surge through the valleys like white waves, setting off the platform to appear even more towering.
Here, mist and clouds are like flowing ink and wash: they imbue Sijiaocheng with its millennium-old heritage and outline the unique landscape scroll that belongs solely to Qixingtai.
Mist and clouds are not mere backdrops—they are the soul that coexists with Qixingtai. They are not just a veil covering the scenery, but a companion that shares the passage of time with it.
They shroud the vicissitudes of the Qi Great Wall, carry the starlit dreams of the Astronomical Tower, and even the arc traced by the cable car becomes a love letter written by the mist to the mountains and rivers.
