巴基斯坦駐華使館前商務參贊、前總理特別助理扎法爾1976年到中國留學，在北京語言學院（現北京語言大學）學習中文。1977年至1982年，他就讀于廣州中山醫學院（現中山大學中山醫學院）。畢業后，扎法爾持續推進兩國交往，為中巴關系發展作出了重要貢獻，成為雙邊合作發展的親歷者、見證者、講述者。
