Among the 15–24 and 25–34 age groups, pop musicwas the most popular genre,accounting for55% and 40% respectively. Rock musicranked secondinboth groups,attracting30% of people aged 25-34and 25% of those in the 15-24 group.In contrast, classical music wasleast favoured bythe youngest group, with only 5% expressing a preference for it,approximately half the proportion ofjazz.These two categories were almost equally popular amongthe 25-to-34 age group, at around 10% each.

However, preferences among the older age groupsfollowed a different pattern. Rock music was enjoyed by around 35% of 35-44-year-olds and 40% of those aged 45-to-64,making it the most popular typeamong middle-aged groups. Pop musicwas also common amongthe 35-to-44 group (30%),twice the figures forboth jazz and classical music.Meanwhile, classical, pop and jazz musicshared similar levels of popularityamong the 45-64-year-old people,ranging from20%to25%.As forthe oldest group, classical musicdominated listeners’ preferences,representing35%,compared withjust 10% for pop music. Jazz and rock musicoccupied moderate levels of popularity, with 15% and 20% respectively.
