      社會創新日:那一天,平日里的課堂消失了!

      那一天,平日里的課堂消失了!…….

      推開門,有的教室空空如也,有的卻擠滿了人——老師、學生,還有校外嘉賓和來自外校的小伙伴。

      孩子們有的收聽環境保護主題的講座,有的參加工作坊,探索提升自我管理的技巧;有些前往生態農場和博物館參觀,有些深入身邊社區調研,以自己的所見所知作為影響身邊世界的一點點力量……

      泉發校區甚至駛進來一輛消防車,孩子們津津有味地聽消防員講解避火知識,了解這些了不起的叔叔怎樣保護了我們的社區!......

      那一天,是11月29日,啟明星學校2023年度社會創新日!

      3個校區同時舉辦豐富多彩的社會創新活動,想要把所有一覽無余,你真的需要一扇有魔力的“任意門”!——

      “今年的社會創新日活動,以‘聯結’為重點,幫助學生提升自我,同時能夠激勵他人。活動由學生主導實施,符合各個年齡段學生的學習興趣和接受能力,也和他們的課內學習內容密切相關

      比如幼兒園和小學低年級的小朋友,他們參加一些服務校區的活動,也會重點學習情緒的控制方法,因為聯結不只是外部聯結,也包含向內的聯結——自我的知覺;小學高年級學生把聯結更進一步,他們和其他社區的伙伴一起活動,開始初步體驗和外部社區的互動;中學生則可以再進一步,全部走出學部甚至校園,直接為本校社區或外部社區提供服務。


      為了保證所有這些活動在未來能夠重復實施,學生能從中獲得持續的、深入的學習機會,我們把所有活動設計在校內或者附近社區。

      和安民學校互訪

      啟明星北皋小學5年級學生和安民學校學生的互訪是社會創新日的典型活動。

      它緊扣社會創新項目的目標,和課堂學習內容密切相關,也標志著啟明星學校和安民學校社區伙伴關系的開始!

      11月29日一早,5年級A班和B班的學生就前往北皋校區附近的打工子弟學校安民學校。他們為安民學校4年級的小伙伴們帶去了一個特別有意思的活動:“情緒象限”——啟明星數學增益項目里的一個知識點。他們要通過這個活動,展示數學和社會創新內容的巧妙聯結。

      孩子們先是和安民的小伙伴們一起繪制曲線或者悖論圖形:這兩個圖形有趣又復雜,由多條直線構成,但大量的交叉點在視覺上造成曲線的錯覺。不管是“小先生們”還是“小學生們”,都畫得樂在其中!



      在短時間內完成全部圖形是不可能的,當安民的孩子們被告知停止繪畫時,教室里立即充滿意猶未盡、甚至頗有遺憾的情緒。





      “小先生”們馬上順勢引導大家思考:剛剛畫圖時,大家很投入,內心也很平靜,但被要求停止的時候,你們的情緒波動了,是不是?其實這個時候,你們可以用數學的方法來辨識和記錄自己的情緒,也就是在數學象限里做情緒的標記——這是情緒的自我意識和自我管理的重要一步。

      陪同學生一道前往安民的數學增益項目老師趙夢瑤對孩子們的表現特別欣慰:“我們的數學增益項目小組早早就想為社會創新日做些什么。經過討論,孩子們決定把在數學增益項目中學習的象限和社會創新能力里的情商部分對應起來,成為一項有趣的社會創新日活動!

      孩子們為活動做了充分的準備,他們在課外召開了好幾次小組會議,還為活動制作了實施步驟清晰的PPT,也在活動后進行了真誠的反思。




      5C和5D班留在校內,接待來訪的安民學校校長和全體5年級學生。他們和小客人一起在圖書館讀書,相互介紹自己喜歡的書籍,以書會友;又一起參加體育課,一道制作靜心瓶,在活動中拉近彼此的關系,建立友誼。

      孩子們在活動中也了解安民同學的生活、學習,在反思過程中記錄下來,和他們的探究單元(UOI)《我們身處什么時空》“現代移民”概念的學習結合在一起。

      幼兒園




      認識消防救生工具。

      觀察小動物,思考人類和自然的關系。



      聽家長志愿者的介紹,了解不同職業的風貌,比如醫生、武術教練和音樂家。

      小學部










      1至3年級學生參加正念瑜伽等社交與情感學習工作坊,10年級學生也來志愿輔導。









      4年級學生參觀中國科技館。



      三里屯校區5年級學生和流動兒童基金會的孩子們一起在三元農場做樹木保護。

      北皋中學部



      6 年級學生來到龍馬農場,認識土壤和食物,了解經濟生活的重要組成元素。

      7、8年級學生根據各自的興趣領域參加6個活動,這也是他們“力求改變的項目”的內容:


      前往眾愛商店 ,幫助工作人員整理了店里收到的捐贈物品,了解如何籌集資金支持有需要的婦女和兒童。


      來到畈畈畈農場,通過各類體驗式活動,了解零碳和可持續發展的概念。


      參加由北京知名心理健康機構 “始然心理”的創始人秦小杰女士主講的心理研討會。之后,他們還協助十年級學生與我校小學生共同開展了心理健康手工制作活動。


      參觀了北京公共安全體驗館,深入地了解如何在突發事件發生后立即啟動自救與服務。


      來到首都愛護動物協會,學習成為寵物主人的責任以及如何采取行動去拯救流浪動物。


      前往馬泉營村進行校外考察,采訪村民并參觀了安民學校,了解打工子弟學校學生對體育活動的需求和可用的空間與設施。


      9年級學生收聽全球環境研究所的彭博士帶來一場關于內蒙古環境再生主題的講座;參加攝影老師Nelson關于電影制作的工作坊,為5月份的內蒙古創新之旅拍攝記錄短片做好準備。



      10年級學生在北皋和三里屯校區擔任小學部活動志愿者,他們獨立設計了活動教案,還通過工作坊項目培養了自己的課堂管理與公開演講等技能,這對未來的職業很有幫助。


      11年級學生在泉發校區帶領孩子們繪制了一幅校園文化壁畫。在幾周內,他們就完成了項目的規劃、設計和實施。

      我們很高興通過2023 年社會創新日活動,激發大家對社區的熱愛和聯結。讓我們再接再厲,繼續鼓勵學生以勇氣去改變和激勵他人!

      On the morning of the 29th of November, the classrooms at Daystar Academy were empty as students took a break from their regular routine to celebrate Social Innovation (SI) Day.


      A wide warry of activities were held across all 3 campuses with a singular aim: to meaningfully connect students with society.

      "This year's Social Innovation Day focused on helping students to connect themselves with society and find inspiration. The planned activities were student-led, and took into account the various interests and age ranges of the students.

      For example, kindergarten and early elementary students participated in activities that helped them to better manage their emotions. The sense of connection to society is not just external, but begins with an inner understanding of one’s self. Our upper elementary students went one step further and engaged in some exchange with students from other schools; our middle and high school students extended this further by going off campus from various fieldtrips or by providing a service to their community.


      We also intentionally sought out experiences that were located close to our campus so that the connection they create can be ongoing, and provide opportunities for deep engagement and learning.

      Exchange with Anmin School

      The exchange visit between the 5th grade students of Beigao Elementary School and the students of Anmin School was a main highlight of Social Innovaton Day.

      It embodies the goals of social innovation, is closely connected to the classroom curriculum and marks the first visit between Daystar Academy and Anmin School!

      Early in the morning of November 29th, students from Grade 5A and B went to Anmin School, a migrant students' school near the Beigao Campus. There, they shared a particularly interesting activity with the 4th graders at Anmin School: the "Emotional Quadrant" in the Math Enrichment Program. They were presenting how Math was connected with Social Innovation in an interesting way!

      Our students began by leading the Anmin students in drawing either a curve or a Cramer’s paradox. These two shapes are interesting and complex, consisting of many straight lines, but with lots of intersections to create the visual illusion of curves. But all the students had a great time doing this!



      It was impossible to complete all the shapes in one lesson, and when the students were told to stop drawing, the classroom was immediately filled with emotions of frustration and even regret.





      Our students immediately guided the Anmin students to think: when you were drawing the graph, you were very engaged and calm, but when you were asked to stop, did you have mood swings? In fact, you can go on to identify and record your emotions mathematically, i.e., by drawing in the math quadrant - an important step in emotional self-awareness and self-management.

      Michelle Zhao, Math Enrichment Program teacher at Beigao Elementary School, said, "Students attending the Math Enrichment Program team wanted to do something for Social Innovation Day early on. They just happened to make a fun Social Innovation Day activity by mapping the Emotional Quadrant they learned about in math classes to apply them on SI day!"

      The students were well prepared for the Math Quadrant activity, holding several group meetings outside the classroom and creating PowerPoints with clear implementation steps for the activity, a seriousness that was very gratifying for parents to see.




      Classes 5C and 5D stayed in school to receive the visiting principal of Anmin School and all the 5th graders. They read in the library with the young guests, introduced their favorite books to each other, and made friends through books; they also participated in physical education activities together and made tranquility bottles together, bringing them closer to each other and building friendships during the activities.

      The students also learned about Anmin students’ life and studies, which they recorded during the reflection process and combined with their Unit of Inquiry (UOI) "What Time and Space Are We In?" on the concept of "Modern Migration".

      As part of Daystar’s culture of service, the campus also welcomed special needs children from Renyuyuan to join in on the fun!

      Elementary Schools










      Grade 1-Grade 3 students engaged in a wide range of social and emotional learning activities, with help from our Grade 10 student volunteers.









      Grade 4 students went on a field trip to the China Science and Technology Museum.



      Grade 5 students from Sanlitun campus went to Sanyuan Farm to engage in a tree protection activity together children from the Migrant Children Foundation.

      Secondary School



      Our Grade 6 students went to the Longma Farm to connect with the earth, soil and food—the foundation of economic life.

      Students from Grade 7 and 8 were split into 6 groups based upon their interest areas as part of the Projects for Change course.


      Students went to Roundabout to learn about how they raise funds to support mothers and children in need.


      Students went to the FunFamFarm to learn about the concept of zero-carbon and sustainability through some hands-on activities.


      Students stayed on campus and attended a workshop by Xiao Jie, the founder of Candle X, Beijing’s pioneering mental health peer support network. They then assisted Grade 10 students to conduct a few mental health-related activities with the elementary students.


      Students went to the Beijing Public Security Experience Hall to experience simulations of various disasters in order to gain deeper understandings of how to be of service in the immediate aftermath of unexpected events.


      The animal lovers amongst our students went to the Capital Animal Welfare Association and learned about the responsibilities of being a pet-owner and how to take action to save stray animals.


      Students interested in the role of sports in building community awareness assisted with hands-on activities with elementary students and then went on an excursion to Maquanying Village where they interviewed villagers and visited Anmin School to learn about their sports needs and identify available space and facilities.


      Grade 9 students spent their day attending two workshops:

      1. Dr. Peng from the Global Environmental Institute talked about environmental regeneration efforts in Inner Mongolia;

      2. Mr. Nelson conducted a film-making workshop in preparation for their trip in May.



      Grade 10 students served as volunteers across both elementary campuses. As part of this, they had to design a lesson plan, develop classroom management skills, engage in public speaking—skills that will serve them in any future professions.


      Our Grade 11 students spent the morning at our early learning center, painting a mural that they collectively designed.They did a great job planning, designing, and implementing this project in a matter of a few weeks.

      We are excited to build on the enthusiasm and connections from Social Innovation Day 2023, inspiring our Daystar students to use courage to change and inspire!
