A growing trend of sharing wedding invitations through digital links has taken an unsettling turn. Many couples now use interactive H5 pages to announce their weddings on social media and messaging groups. But several e-invitation platforms have quietly turned guest browsing data — such as who opened the invite, how many times, and when — into a paid feature, raising serious privacy concerns.

Screenshots circulating online show that services like Hunliji and Hunbei offer detailed visitor logs as part of their membership packages. Paying users can see not only who viewed their invitation but also the number of visits and the time of last access.

"It puts people in an awkward spot," said one social media user. "If you open it out of curiosity but don't plan to attend, the host can still see you've looked — it feels intrusive."
Platforms claim that viewing such data requires guests' prior consent through a privacy authorization prompt. However, tests reveal that many users see no such notification when opening invites. Customer support explained that a one-time authorization for one invitation may apply to all future invites from the same platform — a policy that has drawn criticism.
"You might authorize access without realizing it covers everything afterward," said one concerned user. "For someone you're not even close to, knowing they tracked your view feels like a privacy violation."
Legal experts argue this practice may violate China's Personal Information Protection Law, which mandates clear, informed, and specific consent from users. "Applying one approval across multiple separate contexts does not comply with the 'notice–consent' principle," noted Xie Yongjiang, an internet governance scholar.
While platforms are entitled to offer premium services, monetizing guest behavior data crosses an ethical and legal line. What was designed as a convenient way to share happy news has instead created tension between social courtesy and digital privacy.
True convenience should not come at the cost of user trust. For digital invitations to bring joy rather than discomfort, transparency and respect for personal data must come first.
