Nestled in Palo Alto, CA, USA, the Doerr Sustainability Accelerator is a transformative project by CAW Architects, continuing their long-standing partnership with Stanford University. Born from the renovation of a former campus publishing warehouse—once a dim, poorly insulated concrete structure with a fragmented layout—it now stands as a light-filled hub for sustainability innovation. The design breathes new life into the outdated space, aligning with the university’s mission to fast-track research into real-world solutions for urgent environmental challenges.

坐落于美國加利福尼亞州帕洛阿爾托，杜爾可持續發展加速器是 CAW 建筑師事務所的轉型之作，延續了其與斯坦福大學的長期合作關系。項目源于校園內一座舊出版倉庫的翻新 —— 這座建筑曾是昏暗、保溫性差的混凝土結構，布局零散 —— 如今已蛻變為準自然光充盈的可持續創新中心。設計為老舊空間注入新生，與斯坦福大學加速探索全球緊迫環境問題實際解決方案的使命高度契合。

The renovation addressed the warehouse’s core flaws with thoughtful, cost-effective strategies. CAW Architects introduced large north-facing skylights, flooding the building’s core with natural light without the need for costly seismic upgrades. This design choice not only enhances energy efficiency but also creates a healthier, more inviting atmosphere—replacing the former gloom with a bright, open environment that nurtures creativity and focus. The skylights become a visual metaphor for clarity, symbolizing the accelerator’s goal of illuminating paths toward sustainable solutions.

翻新工程以巧思與高性價比策略攻克了倉庫的核心缺陷。CAW 建筑師事務所增設大型北向天窗，讓自然光灑滿建筑核心區域，同時規避了昂貴的抗震升級成本。這一設計不僅提升了能源效率，更營造出更健康、更具吸引力的氛圍 —— 用明亮開闊的環境取代昔日的昏暗，滋養創造力與專注力。天窗成為清晰通透的視覺隱喻，象征著加速器為可持續解決方案照亮前路的核心目標。

The interior layout is reimagined to foster collaboration across disciplines. Flexible work lounges, glass-walled conference rooms, and dedicated offices for faculty, program teams, and staff are strategically arranged to support both focused work and spontaneous interactions. The glass partitions promote transparency and connection, while the open flow of spaces breaks down silos—encouraging students, researchers, and external partners to exchange ideas freely. Every corner is designed to facilitate dialogue, reflecting the belief that solving complex sustainability issues requires collective wisdom.

The entrance zone is crafted as a hospitality-focused space, setting a welcoming tone for guests including policymakers, industry experts, and investors. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, this area serves as a catalyst for connection, creating opportunities for meaningful engagements that bridge academia and real-world impact. Complemented by a communal break room and informal gathering spots, the design balances productivity with comfort—ensuring that long hours of research are paired with moments of relaxation and casual collaboration.

入口區域被打造為以接待為核心的空間，為政策制定者、行業專家與投資者等訪客營造出親切的氛圍。除了美學價值，這片區域更是聯結的催化劑，為學術與現實影響搭建橋梁，創造富有意義的互動契機。搭配公共休息室與非正式聚集區，設計在高效產出與舒適體驗間取得平衡 —— 確保長時間的研究工作之余，人們能擁有放松身心、自由協作的時刻。

As a model for sustainable building, the accelerator embodies the very principles it advocates. The adaptive reuse of the existing warehouse minimizes environmental impact, reducing waste and preserving resources compared to new construction. Every design decision—from energy-efficient lighting to flexible, durable materials—reflects a commitment to circularity and longevity.
